Well Houses near Wortley, South Yorkshire
Well Houses was originally a working farm but has recently been converted and now forms a small residential complex of upmarket homes.
The view looks North East towards Worsbrough Village, South of Barnsley. The principal form of agriculture in the area is pastoral. Sheep are overwintered in this area as it is close to the higher moorland of the South Pennines (to the South West) but is much more sheltered. This winter image shows the edge of the snow line and that the fields below are snow free and warmer still. Note the traditional wooden fencing on the left of the photograph that still keeps the sheep securely in their field. My memory of this farm will always be of a large black Alsatian dog that always ran out ferociously when we passed too closely and which actually bit a friend of mine as we walked past one day. Now the family and dog have gone. Perhaps some changes are for the better!
