The Coventry Hippodrome opened its doors on 1st November 1937, became the Coventry Theatre in 1955, the Apollo Theatre in 1981 and closed on its last show on 6th June 1985, after which it became a bingo hall until final closure, followed, after protests, by demolition in 2002. Its seating capacity was 2,000 in stalls, circle and 'gods'.

The site is now occupied by Millennium Place and the neighbouring Coventry Transport Museum which was extended and given a new frontage.
