Coppiced area in Starvelarks Wood
This photo shows a newly coppiced area in Starvelarks Wood which is part of the Little Haven Nature Reserve managed by Essex Wildlife Trust See LinkExternal link. This sweet chestnut plantation probably dates back to the 19th Century. You can see in the background areas that have been cut in previous years that show substantial re-growth. The felled timber is used to create fences in this and other of Trusts many reserves.
