ST3429 : King Alfred's Monument

taken 13 years ago, near to Athelney, Somerset, Great Britain

King Alfred's Monument.
King Alfred's Monument.
On Athelney Hill this monument has been erected to commemorate where Alfred burnt the cakes (allegedly!). Rising majestically above the Somerset Levels to a height of 12 metres this must be one of the lowest hills in the country.
