Example from the V&A fashion gallery
The V&A is notable for its range of exhibits, not only paintings and sculpture, but also examples of more popular crafts such as photography, jewellery and, as here, clothes design. This dress was designed by Gerard Pipart LinkExternal link . It is remarkable for its raised texture and a design somewhat reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts fabrics and wallpapers of William Morris. The comprehensiveness of the V&A is underlined by the proximity of this gallery to others where "high arts" from Europe and Asia are on display.
