On Sunday 4th June 1944 General Sir Miles Dempsaey organised an "Eve of Battle" service" here for the troops assembled for what we now call D-Day LinkExternal link. In 1948 he returned to dedicate these two windows; and subsequently, an informative guide told me, on the Sunday nearest to this date every year until his death in 1969.
