Distant view of A12 near Dedham Gun Hill
Before Stratford St Mary was bypassed, the A12, then a single carriageway, toiled up the steep and bendy road up Dedham Gun Hill (in the wooded hills in the background). This view was taken from several squares away, from the highest roof of the highest building in East Bergholt. The distance flattens out the contours but there's a definite valley in between, with quite steep sides (for Suffolk!). Unfortunately, the shape of the valley also serves to channel the noise of the road quite effectively across several grid squares!
