Black-headed and Common gulls
Black-headed and Common gulls
Winter shot at Colwick Country Park. The central bird is already showing its full summer plumage with the black (or more accurately, dark brown) head that give the species its name. The left hand bird is an adult winter Common Gull, identifiable by the lighter legs and yellowish bill, while the right hand one is a first winter Black-headed Gull, as shown by the remaining brown wing feathers.
