The Butter Market, Wharf Road, Shrewsbury
The Butter Market, Wharf Road, Shrewsbury
This was originally built as a terminal warehouse for the Shrewsbury branch of the Shropshire Union canal, which was then superseded by the railway, was then a butter warehouse and is now a night club. It was built c1835. The Wharf Road frontage is not as grand as the Howard Street one, but is in Classical style and has a large first-floor loading door with a hoist over it. Note that the grid line bisects this building, and the Howard Street frontage is in SJ4912.
