Skaters' Meadow
Skaters' Meadow
This meadow used to be flooded deliberately and left to freeze, allowing people to skate on it. Light was provided in the evenings by a gas lamp on the central pole. I spoke to an elderly person nearby who said he learnt to skate here in the late 1940s. He also said that at some point in the 1930s his father skated from Cambridge to Ely.
