Looking in the direction of Broomhill and to where the blue van is, is the original Crookes tramway terminus, right outside the Crookes Endowed School and opposite School Road. The route, which was opened in 1898, had horse-drawn double-deck trams. Only three years later, the electrified route reached School Road on the 28th April, but the only trams allowed up here then were single-deck. Double-deck vehicles only ran as far as Broomhill. A year later, more powerful double-deck vehicles were permitted to School Road. The route was extended to Heavygate Road 26th November 1913 and a tram depot was built on Pickmere Road.

Although trams were constructed right up until 1957, the whole system closed down on 6th October 1960.
