Mount Batten Tower
Mount Batten Tower
The green space is used for occasional events. The defensive tower dating from the English Civil War dominates this area, and is linked with more recent conflicts by the memorial in the form of a Sunderland propeller. This is to the RAF and RAAF aircrew based here who flew patrols over the western Approaches in their Sunderland flying boats during the 1939-45 war. The granite plaque in the foreground is one of a number of interpretation panels in the area.
