The west end of the old basin at North Canal Bank Street has been narrowed. The drop lock in the background connects to a lower basin and then back up to the Glasgow branch of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Spiers Wharf by means of a second drop lock. There are plans to re-open the basins to traffic.
