SN9142 : Tafarn-y-mynydd

taken 10 years ago, 4 km from Cefn-Gorwydd, Powys, Great Britain

This is 1 of 2 images, with title Tafarn-y-mynydd in this square
This is the name that appears on the 1:25K map, translated as Mountain Tavern. There used to be a tafarn here, probably offering overnight accommodation to drovers when the route was a significant drove route across the mountain. It certainly isn't now, just a couple of troop shelters and a few hawthorn trees. This is on a permissive path across the area. The area is not often open to the public but it is a non-firing day and the red flags are down. There is an interesting, if rambling, account here LinkExternal link
