The hall was formerly the seat of the Burdett family, who held the Burdett Baronetcy of Bramcote in Warwickshire. The eighth and last (so far)baronet sold off the hall and his local estates in several lots in 1919. After passing through various hands, the hall was acquired some years ago as a preparatory school for the nearby Repton School. The new owners have reverted to a spelling generally abandoned well over 200 years ago, and added a final e to the end of Foremark. The Parish of Foremark, its church and Foremark Reservoir meanwhile all sensibly stick to the modern spelling.
