This is the largest of three gas holders on the site.
It is a ridged, waterless holder, 90m high. It was erected in 1930.

The other holders on the site are telescopic - the western holder rises to 65m
while the middle holder rises to 35m.

The gas works began in 1866 when the Brentford Gas Company purchased 18 acres of the site
to construct a gas works. First producing gas in 1869.
During its construction palaeolithic axes and mammoth bones were discovered.

The gas works closed in 1973 when the site became a depot for the storage of natural gas.
