Kingston upon Thames: Knights Park bridge (2)
Kingston upon Thames: Knights Park bridge (2)
The bridge was built to link Knights Park, which is in the distance, over the Hogsmill River, with more recent building developments to the south. I have failed to find out when it was built; suffice to say that the Ordnance Survey map of 1880 does not show it but the 1897 Edition does. The width of the structure suggests that it was designed to create an arterial link into, and from, the centre of Kingston upon Thames and the 1940 Ordnance Survey map certainly shows this. However the bridge is now blocked to traffic and the reason for its demise is probably illustrated on the left - the 7.5 ton weight limit. For a view of the bridge from the Hogsmill River please see TQ1868 : Kingston upon Thames: Knights Park bridge (1).
