This celebrated pub has been closed for several years. In the 60s it was renowned for serving 'Mendip Wallfish' - snails, the garden brown Helix aspersa, which were raised in a disused swimming pool, cooked in butter (no garlic) after a lengthy preparation. It was also the place where the Priddy Oggy, a pasty, was originally made, and in the 70s, the first of the small pub breweries was established, with an output of 5 gallons a fortnight!
