Hurdle stack at Priddy in 1982
An updated image of this stack on Priddy green can be seen in the first Geograph. The village hosts an annual sheep fair, a tradition which dates back to 1348 since when it has occurred every year apart from during the foot and mouth epidemics in 2001 and 2007. Originally it took place every August 10th, the feast of St Lawrence the Martyr, but now it is on the nearest Wednesday to August 21st.
According to a local legend, as long as the hurdle stack remains in the village, so will the fair. (Hurdles were of course essential for making temporary sheep pens.)
