'Tornado' in the National Railway Museum
The newly-built Class A1 steam locomotive 'Tornado' had arrived two days earlier from London with the Prince of Wales as passenger, hence his crest on the front of the smokebox. The Prince, who drove the engine for part of the way, later unveiled its nameplate. Far from remaining as a museum exhibit, the locomotive will be hard at work hauling excursions for most of the year.
