NT6087 : Modern ruin, Bass Rock Castle

taken 9 years ago, 3 km from Auldhame, East Lothian, Great Britain

Modern ruin, Bass Rock Castle
Modern ruin, Bass Rock Castle
A more recent building amongst the castle ruins. View towards North Berwick. The vegetation is dominated by tree mallow (Lavatera arborea). This plant has caused great difficulties for the puffin colony on Craigleith. On the Bass it is kept down by the gannets, but the gannets in turn have led to the loss of soil, burrows and inevitably the puffins from the Bass Rock.
