Swans on the Borrowdyke
Swans on the Borrowdyke
Borrowdykes are the ditches that are left once the soil is excavated and thrown up to make a sea wall. They can also be pumped to dry out the land for farming. Water levels in the fields beyond have been artificially managed to beneift birdlife for the last ten years under the DEFRA Essex Coast Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme.
