The east end of Derngate
The white house at the end is No.82, now developed as the entry to the house two nearer the camera, No.78 (with the square bay window with the sloping roof). This apparently nondescript house is one of modern architecture's hidden gems, having been the subject of a makeover in 1917 by the acclaimed Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The owner was the young W.J.Bassett-Lowke, whose firm of precision engineers was famous for its model railways and ships. LinkExternal link
