SX6968 : Higher Combe

taken 10 years ago, near to Scorriton, Devon, Great Britain

Higher Combe
Higher Combe
The building was formerly a woollen mill, and is now sub-divided. LinkExternal link has the architectural details. The River Mardle runs immediately alongside the left (north-west) wing. A delightful circular area just east of the mill is perhaps where moorland sheep were congregated for shearing.

The trees on the far slope, which are in SX7068, conceal the site of Combe Copper Mine. This deposit is of sufficient importance to appear on a national map at LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) .
