SO4522 : 12th century oak chest

taken 10 years ago, near to Garway, Herefordshire, Great Britain

12th century oak chest
12th century oak chest
Of dugout design, the chest is now kept in the locked tower. Thanks to the local guide who allowed me in to see it. Its original purpose was to store alms collected from sinners seeking remission.
So if the chest was made in the 12th century from a mature tree, then the wood must be 10th or 9th century in date.
