SP9209 : Grim's Ditch in High Scrubs Wood
near to Hastoe, Hertfordshire, Great Britain

Grim's Ditch in High Scrubs Wood
Grim's Ditch runs (with breaks) for many miles along this part of the Chilterns, and in many places, such as here, only survives as a pronounced hedge bank and ditch. It is believed to be a late Bronze age boundary marker. Grim is an old name for the devil. Note the young holly bushes growing in the ditch bottom.
