Plaque, Princess of Wales Conservatory, Kew Gardens, Surrey
Plaque near the exit from the Princess of Wales Conservatory. Woodland plants usually flower before the leaves are open on the trees to make the most of the spring light. In oak woodlands you can see bluebells, wood anemone, sweet violet primroses and ferns along with honeysuckle and brambles. Smaller trees such as birch, hawthorn and rowan can also be found in glades and around the edges of the wood. Badgers, foxes, mice, squirrels and many species of birds and insects live here too and you can often find evidence of them if you look in the right places.
