Rocester Church, Arkwrights Mill & The Weaver Hills
Rocester Church, Arkwrights Mill & The Weaver Hills
Rocester, Staffordshire. The church in the picture is St Michaelís which was originally built in the 13 century but was largely rebuilt in the 1870s.

To the right, the red brick building is Tutbury Mill which was built by Richard Arkwright (the inventor of the spinning frame). The mill was built in 1781-2 and was a water powered cotton mill on the banks of the River Dove. The building is currently being converted into the JCB Academy.

The white building part way up the hill on the right is Barrow Hill (now an old peoples home).

In the distance can be seen the Weaver Hills (371 mtrs high).

The football match in the foreground is at Abbotsholme School.
