The M65 at this point is known as the Blackburn Southern By-pass and opened to traffic in December 1997.
This section of motorway is mainly dual two-lane carriageways, with some short sections of three-lane carriageway.
All the major structures such as bridges and junctions have been designed to allow for future widening without any major alterations.
