Boundary Stone
Boundary Stone
Opposite Crook Cottage, this stone would be visible at all but the highest tides. It is one of several along this stretch of coast which is located on the beach. They are presumed to mark the lands owned by Cockersand Abbey, many of which were given by local farmers to the Abbey in exchange for penitences. Once given, the monks made sure they kept a tight legal control them - until its dissolution in 1539.
