Houses at Cranloch
Houses at Cranloch
The stone house to the right was the school headmaster's house. The school itself has been modified to the point of being unidentifiable, though the cookery room, garden toolshed and a wall dividing the girls' playground from the boys' one still survive. It was a 2 room, 2 teacher school, grades 1 to 5 in the larger room with a woman assistant teacher, and the headmaster or 'dominie' taking grades 6 to 8. The school closed in 1946, and the then dominie transferred to Drainie School. My thanks to Dave Riddick for information.
