Corkscrew Falls on the Upper Coquet
Corkscrew Falls on the Upper Coquet
Pete Ball running the Corkscrew Fall below Linbriggs bridge on the Upper River Coquet. Swaledale Outdoor Club had a good level for the section down to this point, which can be run in lower water. But the level seen here is not enough water to continue downstream, which thus proved to be a depressing bump and scrape. The fall conceals a narrow slot into which water from river left drops, leading to a severe tendency to capsize to the left if the paddler is at all inattentive. Although there is no hazard to swimmers downstream, the aerated water does tend to push one into the left wall making a roll up difficult.
