Bridge over the River Thaw
Bridge over the River Thaw
The perforated 'bridge' is in fact a pipe carrier. A public footpath crosses the river just behind this and there is vehicular access for those working in the power station beside this. This is a view of the east bank where ash from the station's boilers is deposited. The power company goes to considerable lengths to try to minimise inconvenience to local residents and the ash mounds are grassed and trees planted on the slopes to help contain them. The mounds provide nesting areas for Skylark and Meadow Pipit whilst scrub at the foot of the mounds to the east provides cover for a wide variety of other species.
