The grave of the Rev. Stephen Roose Hughes
The Rev Hughes was the vicar of Llanallgo at the time of the Royal Charter disaster. He and his lady wife arranged the identification and burial of the 140 bodies retrieved from the wreck and of contacting their next of kin. The events took a heavy toll on Stephen Hughes and he died, still a young man, in 1862. He is immortalised in Dickens' book "The Uncommercial Traveller".
