Gaping Gill winch meet 1975
Gaping Gill winch meet 1975
This is the annual August bank holiday week winch meet of the Craven Pothole Club, seen in 1975. Fell Beck is diverted by a temporary dam so that it is all absorbed by sinks upstream of the main shaft to give cavers a drier descent. Many members of CPC and other clubs camp by the stream all week in a variety of tents ranging from up-to-the-minute mountain tents to makeshift canvas hovels. This was a good year when the weather remained dry and the winch could operate all week.
