Carnegie Public Library
Carnegie Public Library
Former public library at the entrance to West Park on Anlaby Road, Hull. Built in 1904-1905 to designs by city architect JH Hirst, it was one of 660 library buildings in Britain and Ireland to be built with the financial backing of Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish industrialist. The Carnegie Library opened on Tuesday 18th April 1905 and closed in 2003 to be replaced by a new learning centre at the nearby KC Stadium. The Grade II listed building reopened as the Carnegie Heritage Centre LinkExternal link on 1st January 2008 with the words 'public library' blacked out, and is now home to the East Yorkshire Family History Society.
