West Coast Main Line from Acton Lane
West Coast Main Line from Acton Lane
Between Kensal Green and Wembley Central, the West Coast Main Line passes through a complicated tangle of junctions, depots and yards. This scene, from Acton Lane bridge, is about half way along this stretch. The lighting tower is provided to illuminate Willesden Brent Sidings, which was, for a period in the 1980s, London's principal freight marshalling yard. Most activity has now been transferred a mile or so further down the line to Wembley Yard. The arch of the new Wembley stadium can be seen in the distance; the tower blocks are part of the Stonebridge Estate.
