Bealach na Ba
This, the 'Pass of the Cattle' from Tornapress to Applecross must be one of the most 'adventurous' roads in the country. Over this 12 mile section it reaches an altitude of 2000 feet has inumerable hairpins and a maximum gradient of 1 in 4. Prior to recent improvements this aggravated by having a loose surface. Until the road around the coast from Shieldaig was built in the 1970's this was the only road access to Applecross and in winter frequently impassable for weeks if not months.
