Newburgh: mobile dunes and marram grass on the Sands of Forvie
Forvie National Nature Reserve celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The reserve is made up of mobile sand dunes that lie at 90 degrees to the sea and which gradually move north. As they move they gradually become consolidated by marram grass and towards the northern limit they are fully stabilised by heather and other heathland plants.
