Toward old Castle
Ruins of the old Castle, once the seat of the Lamonts, stands in the grounds of the estate of Castle Toward. Four centuries ago this Clan were one of the most powerful families in the West of Scotland. Sir John Lamont in 1563 entertained the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots. The Castle was destroyed by the Campbells in 1646.
