View From Dinvin Motte
Another clear view from the top of the motte. In the 12th century, the top of the mound would have been defended by a wooden palisade. Lower buildings were more likely to be defended by the huge ditches and earth walls. No 12th century timber buildings have survived. (Source: "The Castles Of South-West Scotland", by Mike Salter).
