Loch an Sgòir
Loch an Sgir
Snow from the northern corrie of Sgr Iutharn has run in an avalanche during the winter and covered a section of the (then frozen) Loch. Acting as insulation, this has delayed the melting of that part of the ice, leaving a snow-covered ice shelf on the southern shore of the Loch into late spring. Fortunately, winter winds have cleared snow from much of the ridges, leaving relatively easy going on the ridges - a real help on this 17 mile, 6000 feet-of-ascent walk !
