TA0739 : Weel Carr
near to Weel, East Riding of Yorkshire, Great Britain

Weel Carr
Derelict farm building off Park Lane in the southeast corner of Tickton parish. The name Weel Carr has nothing to do with wheels or cars. Weel is the name of the nearby village and the "carr" is a name often used in East Yorkshire which traditionally meant rough pasture on reclaimed marshland only suitable for grazing when the water level was low. These days the land is farmed all year round, sometimes for cattle grazing but mainly for growing cereal crops. The flat fields stretching off into the distance are only about a metre above sea level.
