SD4356 : Ferry Cottage, Bazil Point

Ferry Cottage, Bazil Point
Ferry Cottage, Bazil Point
The majority of this square is occupied by the River Lune estuary, covered by water at high tide with mud banks, sands and salt marsh exposed at low tide. Ferry Cottage is on the east side of Bazil Point, a small rounded peninsula that protrudes into the estuary. Together with Bazil Farm and a few other waterside cottages this makes up the hamlet of Bazil. I presume that a ferry to Glasson on the opposite bank used to run from here, avoiding the long trek round to the first river crossing up stream between Morecambe and Lancaster.
