Bridge 7 Number Plate, Aylesbury Arm, Grand Union Canal
Bridge 7 Number Plate, Aylesbury Arm, Grand Union Canal
All the canal bridges on the Aylesbury Arm carry a number plate like this one – which reads “Aylesbury Arm” “7” and “Puttenham.” The picture shows how bricks are used to build the arch. The large metal “S” suggests that at some time the safety of the bridge was in doubt, as it is one end of an iron rod right through the bridge to stop the sides spreading outwards.
