Mote Knowe Near Kilkerran Castle
Mote Knowe Near Kilkerran Castle
This ancient feature, now completely overgrown with gorse, is generally believed to be a mound that was used as a meeting place, possibly also for dispensing justice. Some writers suggest that it may have been a previous seat of the Fergusson family. Whatever its origin, the existence of a Mote Knowe in this area indicates the presence of an important family many centuries ago.
