Castlehead Wood
Castlehead Wood
This hill has land too steep to plough and too rocky to support good grazing, so it has remained as old woodland, including oak, beech, alder, some birch, holly and a smattering of introduced species such as sweet chestnut. On the eastern side of Derwentwater, it can catch the low sun of an autumn evening when the turning leaves light up with a glow that contrasts with the shade of Borrowdale Road.
