Pillboxes at Aylsham
Looking from the pillbox near the railway station alonmg the former main road into Aylsham from the village of Buxton. The main road to Norwich runs past at the T-junction, where a second pillbox, recently cleared of vegetation, provides a field of fire across and along both the roads. The line of the railway is just off to the right, for which these two pillboxes provided further defence.
It is unusual to find two pillboxes surviving so close together in an urban setting, and this survival makes the logic of pillbox defence far more clear than is the case with isolated examples in what can seem to be the "middle of nowhere".
