Working at Cavendish Mill
Working at Cavendish Mill
The only fluorspar workings in Britain is due to close in December 2010. The works are owned by Glebe Mines, which was bought by a French company in 2007, and then in 2010 by a Mexican firm. Glebe have permissions to continue the mining, but that requires investment; this is not forthcoming.
Fluorspar is used, inter alia, for toothpaste, mobile phones and hospital equipment.
60 jobs will be lost.
