SP5104 : Former railway land at South Hinksey

taken 36 years ago, near to South Hinksey, Oxfordshire, Great Britain

Former railway land at South Hinksey
Former railway land at South Hinksey
South Hinksey was once a significant railway yard, although even by the time this photo was taken in 1981, there were only a few sidings left. In the foreground some people are walking on the abandoned part of the yard, though it was probably not a right of way. In the middle distance, a class 47 loco hauls a Manchester (Piccadilly) to London (Paddington) working - a service that no longer operates post-privatisation. On the horizon are some of the spires of Oxford city centre.
